Porsche 911 964 Carrera RS
The 964 Carrera RS was Porsches first true lightweight sports version since the 2.7 Carrera RS from 1972. Ripped out for most creature comfort like its iconic ancestor and with a rose jointed race suspension that makes your nose bleed when passing just a minor pothole it made very little concession to comfort. There is no rear seat, door sides were kept to an absolute minimum with only straps to open the doors and the electric windows, the electric mirrors and the central locking went down the drain as did most of the wiring loom to power these unnecessary items that don’t belong in a race car anyway. Seats are lightweight Recaro in color matching leather with only fore and aft adjustment and all sound deadening material was removed as well. The 3.6 liter RS engine was up 10 HP from the standard 964 to 260 HP.
Chassis number WPO ZZZ 96ZNS 491016 was delivered new in Germany in 1992. It was exported to England were the owner in 1997 took his midnight blue Carrera RS to Freisinger Motorsport to have it upgraded to Carrera 3.8 RS specifications. This was before the matching numbers hysteria so in went a type M64/1 engine with 3.8 liter capacity and showing a healthy 300 BHP on a rolling road. Original 3.8 body parts were fitted to exact 3.8 specifications as was the correct 18” Speedline alloy split wheels and a very expensive lightweight roll cage. The car was serviced by Autofarm. A rare chance to acquire a genuine Carrera RS at a very attractive price.
