Alfa Romeo 1750 gt veloce
With its elegant design, destinctive details and sweet running engine, the 1750 Veloce is by many considered the pinnacle of Alfa's 1960s pocket GT. With 122 HP in the double overhead twin cam all-alloy engine, 0-100 km/h in well under 10 seconds and a top speed of more than 190 km/h, it packs the power to back up its looks. The throaty intake sound from the two twin-choke DelOrto carburetors and the meaty, snarling note from the exhaust is so unmistakeably Alfa Romeo.
Add the 5-speed gear box and disc brakes on all four wheels and you have a delightful sportscar and compact, yet very capable grand tourer. With modest running costs compared to its more exotic fellow contrymen and plenty of spare parts, both standard and upgraded available, it is no wonder these cars ranks high on the classic market today.
This beautiful 1750 GTV was first registered in Italy on 29th of April in 1971. After 40 years in the gentle climate of its home country this 1750 was still in pristine condition when we found it and took it to Denmark. Here it received a respray to a very high standard as well as minor repairs before it came into the hands of a true Alfa Romeo aficionado - this was his sixth GTV.
The very enthusiastic owner really used the Alfa properly, driving it on many an adventurous road trip: As such the Alfa has covered the trip from Denmark to France, Italy and the owner’s preferred Spain multiple times – and in the process taking in some of the best roads of Europe. In order to stand up to the rigor the Alfa Romeo was maintained to the highest standards, receiving everything from new suspension bushings to a rebuilt gearbox along the way.
In 2015 a routine check on the otherwise perfectly reliable “Nord” twin cam engine revealed a slightly lower compression on cylinder 4 – upon which the owner decided to have the engine completely rebuilt. During the winter of 2018 the car was finally revived and the Alfa returned to the roads in the spring. The car is in as good health as ever.
This represents a chance for a new enthusiast to acquire an Alfa Romeo 1750 GTV that has been maintained on a no-expense spared basis. Besides the rebuilt engine the Alfa features a rebuilt gearbox, balanced propshaft, rebuilt carburetors, brakes and brake cylinders, rebuilt steering box, radiator, seats, dashboard and more.
Add to that a wonderfully presented car in classic red and black and almost completely to original specifications: Besides a very slight lowering of 20 mm as well as the addition of the handsome GTA-alloy wheel this 1750 GTV is as true to an original factory delivered car as you will probably ever get. Yet it is absolutely no trailer queen: This Alfa Romeo is ready for anything you can throw at it whether it is to the local classic car meeting or that epic roadtrip accross Europe to the road to Ronda. The engine is still running-in with less than 800 kilometers on it, and already the Alfa Is bursting with life and lust after more driving.
